BloombergNEF EV Outlook 2026

Our takeaway from the BloombergNEF EV Outlook? The EV challenge is no longer vehicle adoption. It’s infrastructure.

Several figures from the 2026 outlook stood out:
⚡Cumulative charging infrastructure to 2026 $114 billion
⚡Cumulative charging infrastructure to 2035 $63 trillion
⚡23 million EVs sold globally in 2026
⚡EV electricity demand rises from 367TWh to 2,700TWh by 2040
⚡The UK could see EVs account for ~20% of electricity demand by 2040
⚡More than $800bn of grid investment required globally
⚡Smart charging and V2G identified as key flexibility tools

The clincher is that the success of this transition increasingly depends on what happens behind the charger. Our challenge isn’t just how to connect millions more EVs, but how to do it without driving disproportionate costs, creating new network constraints or adding avoidable complexity for operators.

That’s why three capabilities are becoming strategically important:
Increase network capacity
⚡Improve flexibility
⚡Enable smarter use of existing infrastructure

Technologies such as CTS are designed to address exactly these challenges.

The future of transport electrification is as much a grid challenge as it is an automotive one. Find out how we’re powering tomorrow today: https://lnkd.in/erSBEcTQ
