Riyadh Cables Group and Enertechnos Sign a Development & Licensing Agreement

28th August 2024 — UK-based clean technology company Enertechnos and Saudi Arabia-based Riyadh Cables Group have today announced the signing of a Development and Licensing Agreement. The agreement covers the collaboration on the development and production of Enertechnos’ innovative Capacitive Transfer System (CTS) cable in the Middle East. It represents Enertechnos’ first full commercial licensing agreement and is a major milestone in the company’s development.

The agreement will lead to the production of more efficient cabling for use across the electricity sector. Specifically, the partnership between the two companies has the potential to play a critical role in decarbonising the Middle East and improving the capacity and resilience of the electricity grid across the region. The Licensing Agreement was signed on Wednesday, 28th August, at the CIGRÉ Paris Session by Enertechnos CEO Dominic Quennell and Riyadh Cables Group Chief Executive Officer Borjan Sehovac.

Enertechnos’ Capacitive Transfer System (CTS) reimagines the design of electricity cables to reduce losses and improve energy efficiency across electricity distribution networks. CTS solution introduces a linear capacitor through the cable length, which from Enertechnos’ tests results in up to 10% less energy wastage, facilitating greater levels of power delivery. The solution also reduces the need for materials such as copper by as much as 20%.

Riyadh Cables Group (a publicly listed Joint Stock Company) is the leading manufacturer of wire and cables in the Middle East, delivering innovative power cable systems for energy generation, transmission and distribution applications in addition to communication solutions. With over 1,500,000 square meters of state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in KSA, UAE and Iraq, Riyadh Cables Group is the largest cable manufacturer in the Middle East.

Potential applications for CTS cabling within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia include the country’s electricity grid expansion and rehabilitation, renewable energy generation infrastructure, airports and electric vehicle charging networks as well as the Kingdom’s planned smart cities and giga projects.

“Riyadh Cables Group’s agreement with Enertechnos is part of our continued push towards technological development and environmental sustainability. The production of CTS cabling will help RCG  in introducing new technologies to our markets, facing the continued demands of energy transition, contributing to NetZero Ambitions while also contributing effectively to the sustainability and net zero goals through the manufacture of efficient, low-loss cables.”  said Borjan Sehovac, Chief Executive  Officer, Riyadh Cables Group.

Commenting on the agreement, Dominic Quennell, CEO of Enertechnos, stated: “We are delighted to announce our first full commercial licensing agreement with Riyadh Cable Group. Our innovative CTS solution can play a key role in helping the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East more widely to reduce carbon emissions, increase energy resilience and foster the development and adoption of innovative new technologies.

“This is a UK innovation and export success story. Innovative cabling solutions are one of the missing pieces of the net zero jigsaw that will be critical in the coming years. This new partnership highlights the leading role around the world that UK innovators can play in driving forward electrification at pace.”
