Electric Green and Royal Mail Join Forces to Pilot Revolutionary Bi-Directional Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging Solution

20th December 2023 —

Electric Green announces a strategic collaboration with Royal Mail and Q Energy to demonstrate the advantages of bi-directional wireless charging for their EV fleet, project code name ‘V2Geasy’. Part of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s V2X Innovation Programme, this partnership will play a pivotal role in decarbonising the UK’s logistics sector to unlock productivity gains, safer working environments and help to deliver net zero.

Electric Green’s wireless charging solution offers a more streamlined, secure, and accessible alternative to traditional plugging-in methods. Removing the need to ‘plug-in’ with cables to charge, the pilot will allow a Royal Mail depot to charge without interrupting normal business operations and then feed power back to the flexibility market to be used on site or sold to the distribution operator.

Electric Green’s unique approach to wireless charging uses innovative Capacitive Transfer System (CTS) technology, to power a wireless solution with no depot ‘furniture’, obstructions or moving parts. Wireless charging is able the accommodate the evolving needs of decarbonised vehicle logistics fleets and, by making it far easier to engage vehicle batteries, will help drive the widespread adoption of vehicle-to-grid power management.

Martin Beaumont, CEO of Electric Green, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating: “We are thrilled to partner with Royal Mail and Q Energy in advancing the future of V2X bi-directional wireless charging and reducing the TCO of charging solutions for fleets.

We are confident our wireless charging solution will help Royal Mail to not only decarbonise their fleet but drive forward cost-saving efficiencies in their productivity by removing the need to plug-in their vehicles.

Together with Royal Mail and Q Energy, we aim to make a significant impact on the decarbonisation of the logistics sector and contribute to the electrification of road transport”.

The V2Geasy project, part of the V2X Innovation Programme, is funded by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and delivered by Innovate UK. V2X is part of the up to £65m Flexibility Innovation Programme, funded from the £1 billion Department for Energy, Security and Net Zero Innovation Portfolio.
